How to export worklogs from Jira
Jira Cloud's built-in CSV export does not give you one clean row per worklog, so use a Marketplace app that exports worklogs (Tempo Timesheets, Clockwork or a worklog-export app) or the REST API. For invoicing, export one row per worklog with the author, the day and the time spent.
Steps
- Pick the route: a worklog app from the Atlassian Marketplace, or the REST API if you can script.
- In the app, set the date range and filter to the project or customer you bill, then export the raw worklog data as CSV.
- With the API, call "Get issue worklogs" for each issue, because search results can show only part of an issue's worklogs.
- Check the file: one row per worklog, with issue key, author, start date and time spent.
- Need an invoice, not a report? Continue with the file in Hourbill (below).
Limits
The built-in export has a workaround: filter by worklog date and export all fields, which puts every entry in a "Log Work" column as comment, date, author and seconds. That is text you must split yourself. Hourbill does not export from Jira; it only reads a file you already exported.
The tool
Hourbill reads that file in your browser, applies hourly rates you set and writes the invoice CSV for Xero or QuickBooks Online. It recognises Tempo raw-data columns (old and new names); Clockwork and Worklogs files are matched by column name and may need one confirmation screen. Try Hourbill
Questions people ask
Can Jira export worklogs to CSV without an app?
Only partly. The default export does not list worklogs as separate rows; a workaround exports all fields filtered by worklog date and puts each entry as text in one column, per an Atlassian Community answer. An app or the REST API gives clean rows.
Which columns does an invoice need from a worklog export?
The issue key, the author, the day the work started and the time spent. A customer or project name lets you group invoices by client.
Does Hourbill export worklogs from Jira?
No. Hourbill reads a worklog CSV you already exported and turns it into invoice CSV files. It does not connect to Jira.
