What it does
Bulk Contact Update & Merge is an application for Freshdesk administrators. It loads your contacts, filters them on fields such as company, email domain, language or a custom field, and applies one change to the selection: set or clear a field, add, remove or replace tags, set the primary company, add another company, or change company ticket visibility. Every change is shown in a preview before anything is written, runs as a job you can pause and resume, keeps a change log and can be undone. A second screen finds likely duplicate contacts by phone number, name and email domain, or name and company, and merges the groups you choose, only after you have downloaded a backup and typed MERGE.
Capabilities
Filter, then change many contacts at once
Load every contact once, combine conditions (equals, contains, starts with, email domain, before and after dates, is empty, in a list) and select the matches. Set or clear a standard or custom field, add, remove or replace tags, set the primary company, add another company, or change whether contacts see all of their company's tickets.
Preview before every write
The preview lists each contact with the old and the new value and the contacts that will be skipped, with the reason. Nothing is written until you press Run. Tag and visibility changes read each selected contact first, because Freshdesk's contact list does not include tags, so existing tags are kept.
Jobs with undo and a change log
Changes run one at a time within your rate limit. A job can be paused and resumed; if the tab closes, it shows as interrupted and resumes where it stopped. Every job keeps a change log for 30 days that you can download as CSV, and a finished update can be undone: only the contacts that were changed successfully get their previous values back.
Find and merge duplicates safely
Groups of likely duplicates by the same phone or mobile number (high confidence), the same name and email domain (free mail domains such as gmail.com are ignored) or the same name and company. You choose the contact to keep and the contacts to merge into it, at most five at a time. The review shows every request and the values that will not be kept. Merge stays locked until you download a backup (CSV and JSON) and type MERGE.

Where does Bulk Contact Update & Merge run?
The application runs inside Freshdesk on the Freshworks Developer Platform, in the browser of the agent using it. Its requests to Freshdesk go through Freshworks request templates. Atesen Software does not operate a server or a database for it and never receives your data.

What we do not claim
- It has been submitted to Freshworks Marketplace and requires changes before approval. It is not approved, listed or publicly installable. Public installation, customer and review counts are not verified.
- A merge cannot be undone, by the application or in Freshdesk. The backup file is your record of the merged contacts.
- It does not run in the background: a job runs only while the application tab is open.
- It does not edit agents. Bulk agent editing is not part of this version.
- It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Freshworks.
- It holds no security certification and has not undergone a third-party audit.
