How do I delete duplicate transactions in Xero

Delete one of the two duplicate bank statement lines, and only if it is a true duplicate. Xero keeps deleted lines on the bank statement, so you can restore one if you get it wrong.

Steps

  1. Confirm the duplicate against your bank's statement. Deleting a line changes the Statement Balance, so delete only true duplicates.
  2. One line: on the Reconcile tab, click Options beside the line, choose Delete statement line, pick a reason, then click Delete.
  3. Several lines, or one already reconciled: go to Accounting > Bank accounts, open the account's menu and choose Bank Statements. Under Showing choose Statement lines, tick the lines, click Delete, pick a reason and click Delete.
  4. A whole statement imported twice: delete the entire bank statement.
  5. Check that the Statement Balance now matches the Balance in Xero. To undo a deletion, tick the line under Statement lines and click Restore.
Limits. You need the administrator role, or standard plus bank accounts. These steps cover bank statement lines, not an invoice or payment you entered twice. If a line is matched to the wrong transaction, unreconcile it instead of deleting it.
