What it does

Auto BCC Rules is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge and other Chromium-based browsers that adds addresses to Bcc or Cc in Gmail's compose windows, by rules. The usual use is a CRM's BCC dropbox on mail that leaves the company. Others are a shared archive on invoices, or the help desk on mail sent as the support address. The addresses go into Gmail's own Bcc and Cc fields, visibly, and administrators can set rules through Chrome policy.

Capabilities

Rules

Each rule adds one or more addresses to Bcc and/or Cc. It can depend on the sender or send-as alias, a recipient's address or domain, an exception, words in the subject, and whether the message is new or a reply.

Outside mail only

A message is internal when every recipient is in your organisation's domains, plus your own address's domain unless it is a public provider such as gmail.com. Subdomains count.

Visible

The addresses go into the real Bcc or Cc field, as if typed. A label above Send says what was added and by which rule.

Skip and remove

Skip this time takes the added addresses out of one message. An address you remove by hand stays out of that message.

Safe send

If Send is pressed before the addresses are in, the send is held once, the addresses are added and the label says to press Send again.

Team rules

An administrator can push rules through Chrome policy. Users see them locked, and policy can also forbid users' own rules or skipping.

Questions

Where does Auto BCC Rules run?

Entirely in your browser, on Gmail (mail.google.com). Atesen Software receives nothing from it.

What does Auto BCC Rules connect to?

Nothing from your mail or your rules. It makes no network requests, has no analytics and loads no remote code. The addresses it adds receive your message through Gmail, exactly as if you had typed them. The Copy buttons put addresses or the policy text on your clipboard only when you press them.

What we do not claim

  • It is in development. It has not been submitted to or approved by the Chrome Web Store, and has no installation count or review history.
  • It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google or by any CRM vendor. Gmail is a trademark of Google LLC.
  • It works in Gmail in the browser only: not in the Gmail mobile apps, other mail programs or mail sent by other tools.
  • It depends on Gmail's compose window, which is not a public interface. A change to Gmail can break it until the extension is updated; the label above Send says when an address could not be added.
  • It does not check that your CRM received the message.
