Auto BCC Rules documentation

Documentation for Auto BCC Rules. It describes the extension as it exists today, before any store listing, and will be extended as it changes.

Requirements

  • Chrome 116 or newer, or another Chromium-based browser of the same version such as Edge, Brave or Opera.
  • Until the extension is listed, it is installed from its folder: open the browser's extensions page, turn on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked and select the folder that contains manifest.json.
  • Gmail in the browser, at mail.google.com.

Setting up a rule

  • The rules page opens after installation, and later from Edit rules in the toolbar popup.
  • Add a rule, enter the addresses for Bcc or Cc and choose when it applies. Under Your organisation, list your company's domains.
  • Try the rules on a made-up message at the bottom of the page. Nothing is sent.
  • Rules can be exported and imported as JSON.

In Gmail

  • Compose as usual. When a rule applies, the Bcc or Cc row opens with the address, and a label above Send says which rule added it.
  • Skip this time removes the added addresses from that message.
  • The extension waits while you are typing in a recipient field, so that no keystrokes go astray.

Team rules (Chrome policy)

In the Google Admin console, open the Chrome apps and extensions settings, choose the extension and paste a policy under Policy for extensions. Show as Chrome policy on the rules page writes it for you. The settings are rules, internalDomains, allowUserRules and allowSkip.
