Cost Shield privacy

This section describes how Cost Shield handles data, last updated 23 October 2026. It supplements the site-wide privacy policy.

Where the extension runs

In your browser, on the Google Cloud console only (console.cloud.google.com). Atesen Software receives nothing from it.

What it reads

The console's own estimate sentence, and the query in the editor (the selected text when you run a selection, otherwise the whole query) to show the price and the SQL notes. It also reads the project named in the console's address. It does not read query results or your data.

What it stores

  • Your settings and each project's location and capacity choice, in the browser's sync storage. If browser sync is on, the browser syncs them to your other devices.
  • A log of the runs it saw from this browser, up to the last 2,000: the time, the project, the location, the estimated bytes, the price and whether you confirmed the run. It stays in the browser's local storage on this device. You can export it as CSV or clear it from the popup.

What it sends

Nothing from your queries or projects. It makes no network requests, has no analytics and loads no remote code. Its price table is built into the extension, as listed on Google Cloud's pricing page on 29 September 2026, and it fetches no prices.

A future paid version may add a licence check; this page will be updated before it ships.

Permissions it asks for

  • Storage: for settings, project locations and the spend log. Settings an administrator sets through browser policy are read from managed storage.
  • Access to console.cloud.google.com: to show the badge, the notes and the confirmation.
