Tidyroll vs Clio Manage's built-in duplicate tools
Clio Manage can remove identical duplicate contacts in bulk, and you can combine other pairs by hand. Tidyroll finds near-duplicates too and merges them with a preview and a 30-day undo. Clio's side is taken from its help centre; the step-by-step version is in our guide.
Side by side
| Tidyroll | Clio Manage, built in | |
|---|---|---|
| Which duplicates | Likely duplicates by email, phone in international format, names with nicknames and initials, company names and addresses, each with the reason | The Remove Duplicate Contacts bulk operation handles identical duplicates (Clio help) |
| Contacts with matters | Matters, relationships, notes and documents move to the record you keep, after a preview and a typed confirmation | Duplicates linked to matters and other records stay; Clio suggests combining them by hand (Clio help) |
| Undo | A merge or a whole run can be undone for 30 days; the duplicate is kept with a note | Contacts removed with the bulk tool are not kept in the Recovery Bin (Clio help) |
| When it stops | A merge is blocked when the duplicate has bills, trust or bank transactions, credit memos, Clio Payments, a balance, or portal or co-counsel access | By hand, each pair means editing every matter and copying details yourself |
| Price | Free scan; Cleanup Pass $199 once for 90 days, or Monitor $29 a month | Included in Clio Manage |
Which one fits
- Exact copies with nothing attached: Clio's Remove Duplicate Contacts, after a careful look at its preview.
- A few pairs with matters: combine them by hand in Clio, moving matters before you delete.
- Hundreds of contacts, near-matches, or a need to undo: Tidyroll, if your firm signs in to app.clio.com (Clio's US region).
