Export all attachments from Xero: BoxKite, AllAttached or Unapprove

Xero has no button that downloads every file attached to your invoices and bills. Xero Central's export overview lists no attachment export, so you open documents one by one or use an app. BoxKite backs up the whole organisation, AllAttached builds one PDF per invoice with its receipts, and Unapprove downloads attached files as dated ZIPs with an index. Competitor facts were checked on 8 November 2026, each with its source.

Sources, opened on 8 November 2026: BoxKite, Xero backup; AllAttached; Xero Central, Export data out of Xero. Xero Central loads its text by script, so the Xero row repeats what we read there on 7 November 2026. Where a cell says "not described", the page does not mention it; the product may still do it.

AllAttached does a different job

AllAttached starts from a Xero sales invoice, gathers its attachments and linked expense receipts, lets you review and order them, and exports one PDF per invoice with the invoice first (AllAttached, 8 November 2026). Its page lists no filters, file naming, index or prices, and says "Free for 14 days. No card." It is a fit when a customer needs an invoice with its receipts behind it. It is not an export of every attached file in an organisation.

Which one fits

  • A few files: open the document in Xero and download them. It is free and already there.
  • The whole organisation on file, with contacts, bank transactions and reports: BoxKite's one-off download is the better fit. Unapprove is not a backup service.
  • Invoices with their receipts for a customer: AllAttached builds that PDF.
  • Every file attached to invoices and bills for an audit or a year-end, named and indexed so someone else can follow it: Unapprove's attachment export.

Unapprove only reads when it exports. Files stream from Xero into your ZIP and are never stored. Fair use is 5 GB per organisation per 30 days. Bank-transaction attachments are included with an extra read-only permission. On QuickBooks Online, see the Attachment Bundler comparison. For separate invoice PDFs, see how to download all Xero invoices as separate PDFs.

Questions people ask

Can you download all attachments from Xero at once?

Not with a built-in button. Xero Central's export overview lists no attachment export, so files come out one document at a time. Apps fill the gap: BoxKite backs up the organisation, and Unapprove downloads attached files as dated ZIPs with a spreadsheet index.

What does BoxKite cost for Xero?

On BoxKite's Xero page: Starter is free for contacts only, Essentials is $5 a month per organisation billed yearly for contacts and invoices, Professional is $15 a month billed yearly and includes files, and a one-off download is $49 per organisation. Check the page before you buy, since prices change.

What is AllAttached for?

It collects a Xero sales invoice with its attachments and linked expense receipts and exports one PDF per invoice, invoice first. Its page lists no prices and offers 14 days free without a card.

How does Unapprove export Xero attachments?

You scan the organisation for free to see how many files are attached and how big they are. Then you download them as dated ZIPs with readable file names and a spreadsheet index. Anything Xero will not hand over is listed in an error file.

How much is Unapprove?

The preview and the scan are free, and the free trial downloads a 25-file sample. After that it is $29 a month per organisation, $290 a year, or a one-off $49 Clean-up Pass for 30 days.

Does the export change anything in Xero?

No. The exports only read, and the files are never stored on our side. Unapprove is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed or certified by Xero.
