HITFRAME

Drag a box around a spinning blade and it turns solid. Ride hazards as lifts and bridges through 30 levels in three worlds.

HITFRAME title art: the game's name inside a glowing green selection frame above a dark grid level, where a small white robot stands on a neon green box wrapped around a tilted spinning blade, while a dashed selection is drawn around a second, red blade next to a green exit door.

About the game

HITFRAME is a puzzle platformer about hitboxes. Drag a selection box around anything that moves, and the box that wraps it becomes a solid neon block.

The box stays alive. It is recalculated every frame from the real position of what is inside it: wrap a spinning propeller and the box stretches and shrinks as the blade turns, lifting you to the next ledge like an elevator. Wrap two small stones on either side of a pit and you get a bridge. Wrap a swinging pendulum, a bat in flight or a falling stalactite and ride it. Anything inside a box can't hurt you, and a box laid over spikes keeps your feet safe.

You get two boxes at a time. Drawing a third removes the oldest, and you can dismiss one whenever you like.

Three worlds, 30 levels

  • Workshop: propellers, pendulums and stones.
  • Cavern: bats, falling stalactites and spike pillars.
  • Factory: conveyors that carry you, pistons, and the Overseer, a boss you lock away with both boxes at once.

Stars

Each level has three stars: reach the exit, use no more boxes than par, and beat the par time. The first levels show you the move with a ghost box, so there is nothing to read. Your progress is saved.

Controls

  • Draw a box: drag with the mouse or a finger.
  • Remove a box: right-click, X or Backspace. On a touch screen, the X button or a two-finger tap.
  • Move: A and D, or the arrow keys. Jump: W, the up arrow or Space.
  • R restarts the level, P or Esc pauses, and M opens the level map. The game also pauses by itself when you switch away.

Devices

Desktop and mobile. HITFRAME plays with a mouse and keyboard on a computer, and with touch on a phone or tablet held in landscape: drag on the screen to draw a box, and use the on-screen buttons to move and jump.
