About the game
UmbraPress turns shadows into solid objects. Every level is lit by a lantern you can drag, and every pillar, crate and gate throws a long black shadow that moves with the light. A shadow can do three things:
- Crush: a shadow is solid. Sweep it into a guard who stands against a wall, and he is pressed flat.
- Bridge: a shadow that lies across a bottomless chasm is something you can walk on.
- Hide: stand in a shadow and the guards lose track of you. Turrets cannot hit you there, and their bullets stop in the dark.
You steer a small explorer with the keyboard or a touch stick, and move the lantern with the mouse or a finger. Stalkers wake only when you are close and in the light, plasma turrets fire whenever you are lit, and phase phantoms drift over the chasms. Later levels add a second lantern, crates you can push (they cast shadows too), floor switches that open gates, solar drones that melt shadows, and mirrors that bounce the light.
- 30 hand-built levels in three worlds: Obsidian Sanctum, Twin Eclipse and Prism Vault
- Up to three stars per level: for finishing, for beating the par time and for finishing without damage
- The first three levels teach crush, bridge and hide without a single word
- One hint per level
- Your progress is saved
Controls

- Move a lantern: drag it with the mouse. Grab it, or click anywhere to pull the nearest one.
- The buttons at the top right show a hint, restart the level, turn the sound on or off and open the level map. R restarts and M mutes from the keyboard.
- P or Esc pauses the game, and it also pauses when the window loses focus.
- After a win, Enter, Space or the green arrow starts the next level.
- On mobile: drag a lantern with a finger, and touch anywhere else and drag to move the explorer. In portrait, use the stick under the arena.
