How to rename Figma Buzz assets from a CSV and export them as one ZIP
You ran Bulk create in Figma Buzz and now have a hundred assets, one per spreadsheet row. The people who receive them need file names built from your columns, such as the language, the SKU or the campaign. This guide covers what Figma gives you for naming and exporting, where it stops, and a plugin for the rest.
The short answer
Figma's bulk create fills text and image fields on each asset from your sheet. Its rename and export tools work from the names the layers already have. None of the help articles below describes naming assets from the columns of a spreadsheet.
What Figma gives you
- Bulk create. You start from one asset. The sheet is a CSV or XLSX file whose first row is the header and where each following row becomes one asset. Click Bulk create in the left navigation bar, then Upload spreadsheet, link each text or image on the asset to a data field and click Create assets. New assets are created after the selected one (Bulk create assets in Figma Buzz). The article describes linking fields to text and images. It does not describe naming the new assets from the columns.
- Rename layers. Select the layers and press Ctrl+R (Command+R on a Mac), or right-click and choose Rename. In the Rename to field you can add the buttons Current name, Number ↑ and Number ↓, and the Match and replace fields take regular expressions (Rename layers). That is powerful for patterns in names that already exist, and it reads nothing from a spreadsheet.
- Export. In Figma Buzz, select the assets (with none selected, all assets in the file are included), click Export, choose PNG, JPG or PDF, pick a size and click Export assets (Export assets from Figma Buzz). In the browser, files go to your download location.
- Folders from names. Figma's article on exporting static designs says that with a slash-separated naming convention, exported objects are organized in nested folders: a layer named
button/pill/defaultbecomes the foldersbuttonandpilland a file nameddefault(Export static designs from Figma).
Where these stop
- To name 120 assets after three columns, you copy values from the sheet into 120 names by hand. One skipped row shifts every name after it.
- The export articles do not describe a manifest that maps each exported file back to its asset and old name.
- A column that is not shown on the design, such as a language code or SKU, cannot reach a name through Rename layers at all.
Option: Sheet Namer, a plugin for Figma Buzz
Sheet Namer reads the text on each asset, matches it to its row in your CSV or pasted sheet, and names every asset from a pattern such as {product|slug}_{lang}_{#type}, using any column, including ones that never appear on the design.
Status. Sheet Namer is built and tested and is being published on Figma Community as a free plugin, so it cannot be installed from Figma Community today. Pro license keys go on sale on its own site the day the plugin is listed, with checkout by Paddle. It has no installations or reviews yet.
- Matched by content. Each asset is matched to its row by the text it shows, not by position, so a reordered grid cannot give a file the wrong name. Ambiguous or unmatched assets are flagged before anything changes.
- Preview first, undo always. Every new name is listed before you rename. Renaming is one undo step in Figma, and the plugin can revert its last rename later.
- Transforms. slug, upper, lower and pad keep names consistent.
- ZIP with folders. A slash in the pattern makes folders. You export PNG, JPG or PDF at 1x to 3x into one ZIP with a manifest CSV of asset ids, old names and file paths.
- Safe file names. Optional ASCII-only names, Windows-safe characters and automatic numbering for duplicates.
- Stays in Figma. The plugin has no network access, so your files, the text on your assets and your sheet never leave Figma. A Pro key is checked offline inside the plugin.
How it works
- Open the plugin from the Actions or Plugins menu of your Buzz file. It loads every asset of the grid, or only the selected ones.
- Paste your rows or load the CSV, then press Use this data. Fix any ambiguous or unmatched assets.
- Write the pattern, check the preview and press Rename. Undo with Ctrl+Z or use Revert last rename.
- Pick PNG, JPG or PDF and a scale, then press Export ZIP.
Limits. It works only in Figma Buzz files, not in Figma Design, FigJam or Slides. It renames assets and exports them, and never changes text, images or layout on an asset.
Price. The free plugin previews every name and renames or exports 10 different assets per 24 hours, with every feature. Pro is $24 once, with no subscription: no limit on assets, one license key for one person on the computers they use, and a key that does not expire.
Which route fits
- A few assets, or names built from patterns in the layer names: Rename layers.
- Names that must come from the sheet, with folders and a manifest: a plugin such as Sheet Namer once it is published, or a script of your own.
