Redstor Xero backup retired: what to use

If your Xero backup ran through Redstor, its notice says the product is being retired. This page gives the dates from that notice as of 7 November 2026, then two ways to keep your records: a backup tool that runs every month, or a one-off archive of your own files.

What Redstor says, as of 7 November 2026

The notice is Xero and Salesforce backup products are being retired, on Redstor's help desk. As read on 7 November 2026, it gives these dates:

  • 28 May 2026: the products are no longer available for new sales.
  • August 2026: end of support, planned.
  • From October 2026: end of life. In its update of 1 October 2026 the notice says backups stop at the end of October 2026.
  • End of December 2026: the notice says data will be retained no later than then.

The notice tells customers to review the protected Xero data now and decide what to export before end of life, and says that data egress from the platform is supported at no additional cost. Questions about your own account go to Redstor's account manager or support. Dates can change, so read the notice itself before you act.

What to use instead

Decide first what you need: a backup that keeps running every month, or a copy of your records to keep at a closing, a sale or a year-end.

You want a backup that keeps running

These tools run on a schedule. Prices were read from each vendor's page on 7 November 2026 and can change:

  • Ledgerscope: nightly backups, kept for a rolling 30 days, and a backup can be pinned for up to 6 months. £7 per company per month, US$9 in the rest of the world, no contract.
  • Xportmydata: weekly or monthly backups saved to your OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox, from US$10 per organisation per month billed yearly. Attachments, payroll (Australia, New Zealand and the UK) and daily backups are add-ons.
  • Boxkite: automatic backups to storage you own, from $5 per month per organisation. The Professional plan at $15 per month lists bank transactions, attachments, financial statements and payroll for Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

You want one copy to keep

Xportmydata sells a single download at US$120 that includes attachments and payroll where available, and Boxkite sells a one-off download at $49 per organisation. Unapprove's Company archive is the third option, described below.

Option: Unapprove "Company archive"

Unapprove is a web application for Xero users. The Company archive reads your organisation and gives you three downloads, each its own ZIP. It only reads from Xero and changes nothing in your books.

  1. Data ZIP. CSV lists of contacts, accounts, items, sales invoices, bills and credit notes (and bank transactions if you allow read access to them), the Trial Balance, Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet for up to the 10 most recent financial years, index.csv, README.txt and SHA256SUMS.txt.
  2. Invoice PDFs. Sales invoices and sales credit notes that are awaiting approval, awaiting payment or paid, each as its own PDF.
  3. Attachments. The files attached to your documents.
  • What it does not cover: payments, manual journals, payroll, bill PDFs, invoice line items (the lists have one row per document), and loading the files back into Xero. It is a copy to keep, not a restorable backup, and it is not a schedule: you run it when you need it.
  • It tells you when something is missing. index.csv lists each expected file as ok, failed, not fetched or not included. A download that stops early still opens, with an _INCOMPLETE.txt file; the next download starts from the beginning.
  • Permission. Reports need Xero's read-only reports permission, asked for only when you start from the archive.

Disclosure. Atesen Software, which publishes this page, makes Unapprove.

Price. No separate price. The archive is included in the monthly plan, $29 per connected organisation, and in the Clean-up Pass, a one-off $49 for 30 days with no renewal. The free trial costs $0, needs no card and gives a repeatable sample: the first 25 rows of each list and one report. Prices exclude VAT and sales tax. FOUNDING40 takes 40% off your first payment until 30 November 2026. An unused pass is refundable within 14 days. Checkout is by Paddle on the Unapprove site.
